WCAA Announces Recipient of the Jill Robson Memorial Student Scholarship

Congratulations to Kaitlyn Brown, Interior Design student at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, for being selected as the recipient of the Jill Robson Memorial Student Scholarship. Kaitlyn was presented her scholarship award at IWCE 2017 in Charlotte, NC, on March 9.
Kaitlyn began her college education in a Fine Arts program but quickly discovered that her passion is Interior Design. Kaitlyn currently is a sophomore pursuing a BA Degree in Interior Design. She is a top preforming student, making Converse College's Dean List in 2016. Along with her studies, she works as a Decorative Products Specialist for Sherwin Williams.

“My goal in the Design Industry is to work commercially for a firm designing restaurants, hotels, animal care facilities, hospitals, and senior living facilities because you are able to positively affect more people and create many different ideas for different facilities,” says Kaitlyn.  “In places such as hospitals and nursing homes, the environment is an important factor in regards to someone's health and spirit. I want to have the ability, along with other designers, to be able to make a client's vision come alive while encouraging connections with others.”

There were many eligible candidates who applied for the scholarship, but Kaitlyn stood out from them all. It is best stated by one of her Interior Design instructors, Professor Ruth Beals. “Like the descriptions of Jill Robson, Kaitlyn also has a quiet way of encouraging her classmates in their search for solutions, she shares her ideas willingly, and searches for additional opportunities to attend professional activities and gain new knowledge.” Well said, Professor Beals.

WCAA believes that Jill would be proud of our selection of Kaitlyn Brown as the first recipient of the student scholarship awarded in her name. Congratulations, Kaitlyn!
